Sookie Sookie is very special, he is blind. He was born with eye deformities, which I attribute to fluctuations in incubator temps. ( I have since bought a Nature Spirit Incubator.) Shortly after hatching his eyes sunk inward. Since day one, I have put aqua lube in his eyes twice a day to preserve and moisten his eyeballs, so further issues can be prevented. When I put his picture on some of the gecko forums explaining my concerns, many said to “cull” (kill) him. Being who I am and what I stand for this wasn’t even a option. I bred his mother, I incubated the egg, I watched him hatch, I helped bring him into this world and he is my responsibility 100%! He lives what I would consider a good life, doing just about everything that a sited gecko would do. As I was watching him in his condo I noticed that he “rides” along the sides of his enclosure to find all the things he needs in his everyday life. I keep all his furniture and dishes in the same places at all times, He is loving, sociable and very affectionate. He is my TV buddy each and every night, and we both look forward to spending time together. I do not know what the future holds for this little guy. His growth is somewhat in limbo, He was 3 months old in this picture and only weighed in at 8grams. I started him on a high calorie diet made up of butterworms and waxworms which was hand fed to him so I knew what his intake was. At this age he should of weighed between 17-20grams. I pray each day that he will be with me for many years to come! His picture and story will always be an inspiration to others with disabled pets. SOOKIE AT ONE YEAR OLD 30grams (half the size he should be at this age.) ”LET NOT THE THORNS, KEEP YOU FROM THE BEAUTY OF THE ROSE” †
